The village of Bolibar

If something is known about the town of Bolibar, it is for being the cradle of the ancestors of Simon Bolivar, the architect of the Spanish-American emancipation.

The existence of the village of Bolibar in the 11th century has been proven. Diego de Irusta, who took part in the unforgettable battle of Las Navas de Tolosa in 1212, was born here; those who were abbots of the collegiate church of Cenarruza: D. Diego and D. Bernardino de Irusta; the heroic general Don Pedro de Zubiaur and many others who distinguished themselves in military life.
