The current chapel of La Antigua, the original parish church of Ondarroa, was built at the end of the 15th century, although its existence is documented from much earlier. Its original Gothic style, of which only part of the outer shell remains, has undergone several remodelling works over the centuries, which is why it currently combines Gothic, Neoclassical and Baroque styles, the latter being the result of the reform carried out by Francisco de Ibero in 1759. The Virgin of La Antigua, whose original image has not been preserved, has traditionally been venerated with great fervour by the people of Ondarroa and the people of Ondarroa.
