Historic-Artistic Site of Bengolea

It is a popular style complex from the 18th century, managed by Pedro Bernardo Villareal de Berriz, with innovative hydraulic engineering machinery for its time.

After the crisis of the 14th century, the lineages began to fight against each other to gain control of economic activities, and so they built their fortified dwellings – the towers. Also in the case of the Bengolea family, the mill and the forge were created as a symbol of economic power, the hermitage as a religious symbol and the tower as a symbol of control and protection.

It is a popular style complex from the 18th century, managed by Pedro Bernardo Villareal de Berriz, with innovative hydraulic engineering machinery for its time.

Crossing the bridge from the forge, we find the Lea path and continuing to the right we find the tower, from the 16th century and with the Bengolea family coat of arms on its facade.
